Residential Solar Panels – A Basic Rundown

Residential solar panels create electricity by harnessing the power of the sun.  This is done through photovoltaic cells, which can convert photons into electrons.  The electrical current that results gets redirected through an inverter.

In the process, the electricity becomes useable in a home.  It doesn’t even matter if the house is excessively large, as solar power is efficient for any situation.  This is even the case on cloudy days, as electricity becomes accessible through a storage battery.

If residential solar panels generate too much electricity, an unusual situation develops.  Homeowners actually get an opportunity to sell the energy back to their electric company.

The reason why is because the solar panel acts as a mini-generator for the electric company.  It is able to put energy back into the system which helps everyone in the network.  In turn, the electric company shows its thanks by providing a credit to an account or in some cases paying out cash money.

When this happens, homeowners are actually getting paid to use their own electricity.  This can never be the case with traditional energy sources. However, with this benefit comes a major disadvantage.  Residential solar panels are very expensive.

Some homeowners may have to pay tens of thousands just to get the most basic system installed.  Handymen try to get around this by creating their own panels, but even then there is still an expense.

Also, you must be skilled enough to place the components together.  For many people, this is extremely difficult, especially if they do not have a mechanical mindset.

There are two ways you can get around this.  You could try to use a grant to buy residential solar panels, or you could try to get discounted ones from a construction company.

Some construction companies will go a step further and give you free solar panels.  However, there is a catch, as these panels are usually the ones that get damaged from accidents or careless drunk drivers.

They cannot be used on the road because they are a safety hazard.  Of course, since they are broken, you must still find a way to fix them.  Again, if you are not a handyman, consider hiring the company you got the panels from.  They might be willing to offer a lower price because by taking their unusable panels, you are actually doing them a service.

Now you know the basics behind residential solar panels.  Use it to help implement solar power in your home.  If you can do it successfully, you will save on your energy bills while helping to maintain the health of the Earth.

You may also influence others to follow the same path.  If a neighbor sees how effective solar power is for you, they might want to use it in their own home.  If this cycle continues enough, perhaps one day solar power can become the norm and not the exception for electrical energy.

I’ve been planning to install solar panels to our roof but I did not find any credible information that I can follow. Based on this article, it is good if we’ll hire the company itself where I’ll buy the panels to install them back home.

  2. Solar panels are a great idea for metal roofs.

solar poweris the way to go, I just wish more governments would wake up to the fact that we are losing our world.

  4. I would always have a back up system when using solar power just in case. a small diesel generator that you cna wheel out if needed would do. They are inexpensive and portable
