Solar Panel Watt – Determining How Much You Need

The solar panel watt is the ultimate secret to saving money on one’s electric bill.  Consider a system that generates 4 kilowatts of solar power.  Over the course of a month, a home would receive over 700,000 more watts of energy.  This boost of electricity would allow the average home to save nearly $100 a month on their utility bill.  Multiply this amount over a year’s time, and you have $1,000 or more in savings.   For many households, this equates to a lavish vacation, a college course or even a cheap car!  However, before making any moves, you must access how much solar power you will need for YOUR situation.

Analyzing your electric bill is one method.  Look at it to determine how many kilowatts you use.  This is denoted by kw-h, which stands for “kilowatt hours.”  Now, take this figure and divide it by the total number of days in your billing cycle.  This lets you know how many kilowatts your house needs each day.  Keep this in mind when researching your solar panels.  Remember, the total solar panel watt must match this figure.  You can even go over, if you want to be on the safe side.

If a provider is selling solar panels in a set, the corresponding wattage will represent how much the whole system can produce.  However, there are other times when solar panels are sold individually.  This is especially the case for outlets that promote DIY installation.  In these instances, you will have to multiply the solar panel watt for each pane.  If you have trouble figuring this out, there are a plethora of watt-to-kilowatt or kilowatt-to-watt online conversion calculators you can use.  They will give you some idea as to how many solar panels you will need to generate the right amount of electricity for your household.

After determining how much power your household needs, consider researching a study to cement your value.  For example, if you live in Florida, you can research The Florida Solar Energy Center.  In one of their latest studies, it found that a 2kw solar panel system generated between 5 to 8.5 kilowatt hours per day for the average home.  Does this match your own research, assuming you followed the steps mentioned above?  If it does, and you live in Florida, you can use that figure as a starting point when considering the solar panel watt of a given system.  If you do not live in Florida, try to find research that matches your state.  Any institution that centers on environmentalism should have research relating to solar power in your area.

  1. Dan from Reduce Energy Usage says:

I believe that we are going to see more homes starting solar power usage. With our current oil economy, more and more pollution is evident, and it has to and will stop one day. The current federal and state energy tax credits also help to recover your cost in a system.

  2. Holly from iPad Application Development says:

Unfortunately, I don’t live in the United States, so I can’t enjoy the benefits of solar panel watt. I wish it was available in my country, too, because it’s important to involve in this more and more people going green. Thus we’d save the energy for our successors. Thank you for providing useful information here!

  6. You’re right, there are many amazing applications in which solar panels can be used. There are also many government programs where homeowners can generate good income!

  7. One of the best things about spending to increase energy efficiency in your building is that you are going to recover the investment in energy bill savings. In the long run you will help save the environment and save money. There really isn’t much to lose there.

  8. Rosy from Bellini says:

Choosing a Solar panel depends on what you want it to power, whether its a lightbulb or TV , and how long you need the device to run for. Nice post

  9. Solar power provides a resource that is renewable and has a very low carbon footprint.! thanks for sharing Knowledgeable information.

I really need a solar panel but for now I don’t know much about it … nice post btw

  12. Edward from Miami Homes says:

In most situations, I recommend the use of quality polycrystalline solar panels for home solar power systems.

  13. Lina from Acqualina Miami says:

You need to calculate how much power, in watts, you use on a daily basis. Your electric bill will be necessary for this. A lot of utilities actually break this down for you in your monthly statements. If you’re not so lucky, there are online tools to help you out.

  14. Thanks for sharing all important information for right solar panels,I think one can determine the size of solar panels on sunlight in the given area.

  15. Michael Dylphe from Window Tinting says:

Beside than solar power system, we can also make use of sun control window film to help in energy savings because windows can cause about 75 percent of heat gain during summer months which raises air-conditioning cost.

  16. Regi from St Regis Bal Harbour says:

Commercial sun control window films also helps reduce building cooling costs, reduce fading of carpet and furniture, and block harmful UV rays.

  17. Solar power is the way forward – great way to save money but also to conserve our planet. If everyone would contribute by going green, we would really save a lot of plants and our planet.

  18. Martyn from Best Headphones says:

In the UK, using solar panels are being encouraged more and more by the government. They were offering grants to households to install them, although I’m not sure if that is still continuing. Nice post.

  19. Mike Reeson says:

I am seeing more and more homes pop up with this. Even recently the public library put a bunch which also double as covered parking. Too bad I live in an apartment.

  20. Dave from Seamless Guttering says:

Solar panels are key but rainwater collection is important too!

  21. Jan Stephens says:

Yes, it’s not always easy to calculate this! Have fun with your solar kits guys!

  22. Even with so much advancements in the field of solar power, it still remains expensive and has limited usage. In developing countries like India, its still not affordable to use and is very much restricted to rural areas where electrification is not there..

  23. I didn’t realize it could save so much money. I thought the amount they saved was minimal. Solar panels rock

  24. Alex says:

This looks like an awesome way to save on electricity bills.

  25. Kasi says:

I have been trying to convince my husband that we need to install solar panels but he doesn’t think it will end up in much savings for us because we live in Maine.

  26. Ulrih from Dentistry Lawrenceville says:

I live in the Pacific Northwest and we are totally off the grid for all our electrical needs. I don’t know what would stimulate people to do the same thing…I hate to think that the power companies are keeping it from happening by inflating the price and availability of solar panels but the only incentives that are available are if you are connected to the grid. Draw your own conclusions about that…..

  27. jill from gutter heat tape says:

The advantages of using a solar panel is certainly greater than its disadvantages, based on what i know, the only two main cons in using a solar panel is that it is pretty costly, and cannot be used in times of storms, obviously, but then again it has a lot more of pros, one is that, it is a renewable type of energy, and the most important one is, it emits no pollution at all compared when using oil which burns and emits harmful greenhouse gases.

  28. Solar energy is most efficient other than any source of energy.

  29. Mia from Miami Real Estate says:

Solar Energy does not contribute to global warming, as it does not contaminate the air by releasing carbon dioxide or other pollutants.

  30. Sofia from PeoplePerHour says:

In a country like mine (Greece, for the curious), that the sun is the most regular weather phainomenon, it is a common investment to use Solar Energy.

However, it is also important for a household to be independed and not rely only to Solar Power.

I’m glad to see people getting informed about this. Sooner or later, Solar Energy will be more than a good investment – its importance will be vital.
